U.S. Freestyle Championships - Moguls

The top U.S. moguls athletes will compete for national titles in moguls and dual moguls March 20-24, 2018 at Waterville Valley Resort, New Hampshire.

Young Trudy Mickel earned her spot on the U.S. Ski Team in 2017 when she won the moguls competition at FIS Junior World Championships. She completed her first year on the NorAm tour as well with four top-10 finishes, including a third place podium.

Jack Kariotis has been competing on the NorAm scene since 2012. He had a break through season in 2017, walking away from the FIS Junior World Championships with a gold medal in moguls and a bronze in duals, earning himself a spot on the U.S. Ski Team.

Troy Tully had a break out year on the NorAm circuit in 2015-16. After securing two podiums at U.S. Selections in December, he posted seven NorAm podium finishes, including three wins, to take home the 2016 Grand Prix title and land his spot on the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. Tully went on to defend his title in 2017 and post some of his best World Cup finishes.

Q: Tell us something quirky about yourself that people would be amused to learn.
A: I can do single handed claps

Hunter Bailey got his start in mogul skiing at age 13. After securing his spot on the U.S. Ski Team in 2016 with a gold medal at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships, Bailey went on to ski solidly on the NorAm tour and claim both the mogul and dual moguls national titles in 2017.

After an impressive showing at U.S. Selection in December 2015, Emerson Smith racked up three NorAm wins in 2016. He capped his season off with a silver medal at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in Are, Sweden.

Hannah Soar was a consistent top-10 contender on the NorAm circuit in 2016. She also finished fifth in the FIS Junior World Ski Championships.

FIRST TRACKS
Soar spent weekend at Killington with her family. SHe joined the freestyle team when she was eight years old and qualified for her first junior national championships at age 12.

OFF THE SNOW
When she's not skiing, Soar likes to play soccer, hike and golf.

The 2015-16 season was a red-hot one for Olivia Giaccio. She was quickly recording top results, including three top-5 finishes at the Selections event in December 2015. Her outstanding performance at Selections earned her the chance to start in a World Cup event at Utah's Deer Valley Resort in February 2016. Giaccio qualified for the finals in her first world cup event, finishing 16th in singles. Her success continued on 2016-17 with a first-career podium and two medals at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships, including gold in dual moguls.

19-year-old Joel Hedrick has been making a name for himself on the NorAm circuit and at FIS Junior World Championships. He finished out the 2016 season with three NorAm podiums, including two wins, landing him third in the Grand Prix standings. He finished an impressive 6th place at U.S. Championships in Steamboat Springs, CO before going on to take bronze at Junior Worlds. Hedrick continued to see success in 2017 with a NorAm win and a third place finish in moguls at U.S. Championships.

Abe Studler began his skiing career on the slopes of Gore Mountain in New York. His natural abilities and passion for the sport got him in to mogul skiing. Since starting his run on the NorAm tour in 2013, Studler has posted some top 10 finishes, including his first podium at the NorAm finals in Killington in 2016. He also won the 2016 Junior National title in moguls.

FIRST TRACKS
Studler began skiing when he was 18 months old. He joined the club at Whiteface Mountain when he was nine and continued to pursue his moguls career at Killington Mountain School.
