OSLO, Norway (March 13, 2015) - Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT) capped a comeback season soaring to second in the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup finale at Holmenkollen in Oslo. Hendrickson flew 128.5 meters on her second jump to finish just behind Japan's Sara Takanashi.
Holmenkollen marked the lone event of the season for the women to jump on a large hill. Hendrickson stood second behind Takanashi after the first jump, then hit the longest ride of the day on her second. But it wasn't enough to eclipse the Japanese. It was Hendrickson's best World Cup result of the season, following two podiums the week prior to World Championships.
Most of all, though, her performance erased more fears after her August, 2013 training crash on the large hill at Oberstdorf.
"It was a fantastic day for myself here in Oslo," she said. "I love flying on large hills and I am particularly proud of myself for overcoming my fear of big hills since that is how I got injured in 2013. I had moments training for Oslo and throughout the whole year where I was nervous around jumping a K120 but I trusted myself and that's what I am proud of at the end of this season. It's a bummer I am jumping so well right now with it over but that gives me so much confidence for the summer and next season."
HIGHLIGHTS
- Sarah Hendrickson soared 128.5 meters - long ride of the day - to finish second behind Sara Takanashi of Japan.
- Jessica Jerome was 11th, with Nita Englund 23rd and Tara Geraghty-Moats 28th.
- The finish left Hendrickson in eighth place in the season-long FIS Ski Jumping World Cup standings. Englund was 10th in her breakout World Cup season.
