LILLEHAMMER, Norway (Dec. 5) - World Champion Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT) came from behind to finish ninth in the opening FIS Ski Jumping World Cup of the season. Jessica Jerome (Park City, UT) was 11th with Nita Englund (Steamboat Springs, CO) 18th. Slovenia’s Spela Rogen won with Daniela Iraschko-Stolz of Austria second. Sara Takanashi of Japan was third.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Sarah Hendrickson returned to the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup, finishing ninth. Jessica Jerome was 11th and Nita Englund 18th
- Hendrickson moved up after an 89-meter first ride, soaring 96.5 meters to jump up to ninth.
- Englund’s 18th were her first career World Cup points.
- The World Cup tour now takes a break before resuming in Japan in January. The team will compete next week in a Continental Cup in Notodden, Norway.

I was rather frustrated with today. My training jumps went really, really well, but my competition jumps were not as good for me technically. My nerves got the better of me today. Granted, I haven’t competed in a while, but it is hard for me to not be performing at a higher level.

All in all, this was a good day in Lillehammer, Norway, with light snow and wind coming from behind. As a somewhat rookie team, the athletes performed pretty well, with Nita Englund scoring her first World Cup points and Tara Geraghty-Moats qualifying for her first ever World Cup. Sarah Hendrickson had a good day coming back to her first World Cup in more than a year, executing three solid jumps, with her third jump being the best. Jessica Jerome performed consistently and strongly in this opening World Cup event. The team will now have a few days of training to polish their skills before competing in a next weekend’s Continental Cup in Notodden, Norway.
