CALGARY, Alberta (Jan. 28, 2016) – The U.S. Freestyle Moguls Ski Team will make its third stop on the FIS Freestyle World Cup this weekend at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta. Moguls competition will take place on Saturday.
After an extended training block, both the men's and women’s teams had solid results at last weekend’s World Cup in Val St. Come, Quebec. The men really pushed their speed and degree of difficulty, but a few small mistakes kept them off the podium. Young guns Nessa Dziemian (East Hampstead, NH) and Jaelin Kauf (Steamboat Springs, CO) both had strong runs and lead the charge for the U.S. women, with Dziemian posting her best World Cup finish and Kauf notching a top 20 in her first World Cup appearance. Coming in to Calgary, the opportunity exists for both the World Cup veterans and new comers to really step it up.
“Our U.S. regional programs are doing a great job of preparing our younger skiers for the World Cup,” said head mogul coach Matt Gnoza. “These athletes are arriving on the scene with the knowledge they need to do well. We like what we’re seeing from the rookies, and it’s good to keep the veterans on their toes. The inter-team competition really fuels our performance. When one of us wins, we all win.”
Qualifications for the event are Saturday at 11:20 a.m. EST. Finals will follow at 3:30 p.m. EST with a live stream available on NBC Sports Live Extra.
