VAL ST COME, Quebec (Jan. 21, 2017) – The U.S. mogul skiers put up a strong showing against a tough field at the FIS Freestyle World Cup at Val St. Come on Saturday. Keaton McCargo (Telluride, CO) and Troy Murphy (Bethel, ME) were the top U.S. athletes, finishing sixth and 10th respectively.
The U.S. team once again stacked a talented field of skiers into the finals, including McCargo, K.C. Oakley (Piedmont, CA), Mikaela Matthews (Frisco, CO), Morgan Schild (Pittsford, NY), Tess Johnson (Vail, CO) and Jaelin Kauf (Alta, WY). McCargo skied a clean run to land her eighth-career top 10 finish.
“The course today was great,” said McCargo. “The jumps were nice, and the moguls were spaced farther apart than normal, so that made for some interesting skiing. I could have been faster, but I thought I skied clean and my jumps were good.”
The Canadian team snagged a women’s podium sweep with Justine Dufour-LaPointe taking the win, Andi Naude in second and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe in third. Other top finishers for the U.S. included Oakley in eighth, Schild 11th, Johnson 12th, Kauf 14th and Matthews 15th.
Murphy, who consistently competes with one of the most difficult air packages on the circuit, put together two good jumps and a solid middle section to snag his first top-10 finish of the season.
“Overall I’m satisfied with my skiing today,” stated Murphy. “I’ve got some good momentum behind me that’s been building up the past few weeks and I’m happy to keep taking steps in the right direction.”
Canada’s Mikaela Kingsbury took home yet another win on home turf. He was joined on the podium by France’s Sacha Theocharis in second and Sweden’s Walter Wallberg in third. U.S. skier Brad Wilson, who podiumed at last weekend’s World Cup in Lake Placid, was 11th.

A small mistake on the top jump landing kept me out of the super final. Other than that, I am really confident in my skiing and jumping and I'm excited to keep moving forward.
