PARK CITY, UT (Jan. 17) – U.S. Freeskiing double-threat Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) mathematically clinched her spot on the first-ever U.S. Olympic team for slopestyle skiing Friday with her impressive victory at the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix. Canadians Dara Howell and Kaya Turski couldn’t surpass Logan’s 87.40 she scored on the King’s Crown slopestyle course and they settled for second and third. Logan will compete in the fourth Olympic qualifier for halfpipe Friday evening at a chance to make the first-ever Olympic team for halfpipe skiing. I don't even know what to feel right now. I can't believe that just happened. It makes me feel a whole lot better about going into pipe tonight. It's a bit of a confidence booster. I will probably not compete in slope tomorrow and concentrate on pipe and hopefully get that spot.
I never thought I would go to Sochi. I always dreamed of it, but never thought it would happen like this. I can't wait to go there and represent the USA and bring home another podium for us.
I've been doing both halfpipe and slopestyle since I was 13, so they both come naturally and one helps the other. Why not go for two? It's better to go for two chances than one. Hopefully I can bring home a couple medals. The two aren't really different. If you can do a trick in the pipe you can do it on the jump, you are just entering from a different axis.
