BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Dec. 15) – Three-time X Games medalist Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) sealed the victory Saturday in the first-ever slopestyle skiing Olympic qualifier at the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships. U.S. Freeskiing rookie Maggie Voisin (Whitefish, MT) also made the podium on Saturday, which also happened to be her 15th birthday, making her age-eligible for the Olympic Winter Games. Logan and Voisin are in a favorable position as the series moves to Copper Mountain for the Visa U.S. Grand Prix Presented by The North Face on Dec. 20-21, the second of five qualification events.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Three-time X Games medalist Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) sealed the victory Saturday in the first-ever slopestyle skiing Olympic qualifier at the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships.
  • U.S. Freeskiing rookie Maggie Voisin (Whitefish, MT) also made the podium in third. Saturday also happened to be her 15th birthday, making her age-eligible for the Olympic Winter Games.
  • Logan was the only female to have qualified for both halfpipe and slopestyle finals in the Dew Tour. She finished sixth in the halfpipe final.
  • Unfortunately, U.S. Freeskiing athlete Ashley Battersby (Park City, UT) fell and was injured during the final. She was taken off the mountain for a full medical examination.
  • All eight women in the final battled with the stiff, cold winds that made tricks off the kickers difficult and unpredictable.
  • Logan’s winning run: Lip on frontside 270 off down rail, switch on backside 270 off flat-down, rightside 540 safety, switch leftside 540 safety, Japan grab, straight slide the up-down, cork 720 tail and rodeo 540 safety.
  • Voisin’s third-place run: 270 onto downrail, 270 out flat-down, unnatural 720, natural 720, safety off the chicken coop, frontside 270 off rainbow rail, switch 540 and 540.
  • Selection to the Olympic freeskiing team will be made from athletes who have two top three finishes against the entire field in the selection events. Those athletes will be ranked with their best two of five qualifying events using World Cup scoring (100 point scale) comparing only USA athletes.
  • Logan and Voisin are in a favorable position as the series moves to Copper Mountain for the Visa U.S. Grand Prix Presented by The North Face on Dec. 20-21, the second of five qualification events.
  • Men’s slopestyle skiing finals will wrap up U.S. Freeskiing’s first-ever Olympic qualification event Sunday at 12:00 p.m. EST and will air live on NBC. All competition can also be streamed live on www.dewtour.com.

QUOTES
Devin Logan
I definitely wanted to come out here and do well. It takes a little stress off my shoulders going into the next couple qualification events. But there are four more qualifications, so anything can happen. Hopefully this will be a nice practice event for the next one in Copper.

She (Maggie) is an amazing skier and I worry about her all the time nipping at my heels. I’m definitely going to have to step up my run after seeing what she threw down today, but it’d be awesome to have her on the Olympic team with me.

Maggie Voisin
It’s awesome to see how far I’ve come and how hard I’ve worked, especially at my age. I couldn’t be more excited. It means a lot.
