Ligety 15th in Slick Kitzbuehel Slalom

KITZBUEHEL, Austria (Jan. 24) – Defending Olympic Champion Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) led the U.S. Ski Team Friday, finishing 15th at a slick and snowy Audi FIS Alpine World Cup slalom in Kitzbuehel, Austria. Teammate Nolan Kasper (Warren, VT) skied into 18th, and German slalom ace Felix Neureuther took the win. The race, originally scheduled for Sunday, was switched with the super combined in order to preserve the downhill track for Saturday’s 74th Hahnenkamm downhill. The U.S. Alpine Olympic team nominations will be announced Jan. 26 following the super combined event. 

HIGHLIGHTS

• Defending Olympic Champion Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) led the U.S. Ski Team Friday, finishing 15th at a slick and snowy Audi FIS Alpine World Cup slalom in Kitzbuehel, Austria.
• Teammate Nolan Kasper (Warren, VT) skied into 18th, and German slalom ace Felix Neureuther took the win. Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway skied into second with Italy’s Patrick Thaler third.
• Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) opted out of Friday’s slalom in order to rest for Saturday's downhill.
• The challenging first run course set was made even more difficult by wet, heavy snow falling on the course, which yielded slick conditions and limited visibility.
• During the first run Ligety made an incredibly athletic move to stay on course after nearly losing his footing in a flush near the bottom. Kasper lost a pole near the bottom in the same spot, but also held it together.
• David Chodounsky (Crested Butte, CO) crashed in the tricky first run set and did not advance to the second run.
• The race, originally scheduled for Sunday, was switched with the super combined in order to preserve the downhill track for Saturday’s 74th Hahnenkamm downhill.
• The U.S. Alpine Olympic team nominations will be announced Jan. 26 following the super combined event.
