SAPPORO, Japan (Jan. 10, 2015) - Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT) soared to fifth as the women's FIS Ski Jumping World Cup resumed after a month break. National hero Sara Takanashi took the win over Daniela Iraschko-Stolz of Austria and Spela Rogelj of Slovenia.
Her finish marked another stepping stone in her return from a devasting accident that impacted her run up to the Sochi Olympics.
"Each competition will get better and better," said Hendrickson. "I am happy about today. I had a really good first jump and the second was okay as well but the wind was all over the place. Our team got pretty unlucky but we managed and again I am satisfied. I can finally feel like I am confident in my strength and knee. I'm excited for tomorrow."
Hendrickson was standing third after the first round with a 95.0 meter jump, but dropped back on the second going 88.5 meters.
Jessica Jerome (Park City, UT) was 13th with Nita Englund of Steamboat Springs, CO continuing her strong season in 20th. Tara Geraghty-Moats was 40th.
The women jump again on Sunday in Sapporo.
