PARK CITY, UT (Dec. 29) – Nick Fairall (Andover, NH) earned a nomination to his first Olympic team with a narrow victory over Park City local Anders Johnson at the 2014 Olympic Team Trials for Ski Jumping at Utah Olympic Park. Sunday’s event was broadcast live on NBC while 5,000 fans cheered in the finish area. The rest of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team that will compete in Sochi will be selected from World Cups and announced Jan. 22.

It’s excellent to be going to my first Olympics. It’s something I have dreamed of since I was a little kid, but most importantly I am proud to go and represent the USA. It’s not a generic comment, I’m very proud. It’s such a great opportunity that not many people get to do and I’m so thankful for that.
The hill is in great shape. The hill crew and organizing committee did an awesome job. The hill is a challenging one because it’s high altitude, but I was pleased with the way I jumped.
This crowd was amazing. They were loud with their cheering and us athletes could hear them from the top and get pumped on our outrun and it’s awesome!
We’re definitely a close team. We spend about 200 days out of the year together and are like brothers. We have been there for each other through the ups and downs but we support each other. We know that if others do well it is better for the whole team and we hope to have the team as a whole do well, even though it’s an individual sport.

Today I had two consistent jumps. It was definitely the best competition I’ve had in at least a year so I’m pleased with that. It’s a sport of distance and style, so unfortunately my style wasn’t so great on the first jump which, in my opinion, cost me, but that’s how it is.
