BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Dec. 10, 2015) – The first major freeskiing competition of the 2015-16 season is kicking off in Colorado this week with the Dew Tour Breckenridge. U.S. athletes are competing against an international field in superpipe and slopestyle competitions.

Preliminary competition got underway on Wednesday with women’s semifinals in both superpipe and slopestyle. U.S. Freeskiing member Annalisa Drew (Andover, MA) led the field in superpipe, qualifying first with a score of 88.00, while her teammate Brita Sigourney (Carmel, CA) qualified third with an 84.60. Swedish skier Emma Dahlstrom topped the women’s slopestyle field with a score of 90.40. The two women scheduled to compete in slopestyle, Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) and Keri Herman (Bloomington, MN) did not start after taking hard crashes in training. The women’s superpipe final is Friday, while the slopestyle finals take place Saturday.

On the men’s side, British skier James Woods conquered the flat light conditions to earn the top qualifying position for Sunday’s slopestyle final. A large number of favorites failed to land runs in the first round of 30 men - U.S. team member McRae Williams (Park City, UT) and Robby Franco (Cameron Park, CA) were the only Americans to make it through on the first pass. But Bobby Brown (Breckenridge, CO), Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO) and Joss Christensen (Park City, UT) all rode well in the second round to earn themselves a spot in the final. The men’s superpipe qualifications are scheduled for Friday at 11:00 a.m. MST.

U.S. athletes that did not make it through the qualifying rounds: Jeanee Crane-Mauzy (Park City, UT) finished 13th in superpipe; Abigale Hansen (June Lake, CA) finished 11th in superpipe; Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) DNS; Keri Herman (Bloomington MN) DNS; Noah Wallace (Spokane, WA) 19th in slopestyle; Matt Walker (Aspen, CO) 20th in slopestyle; Colby Stevenson (Park City, UT) 23rd and Chris Laker (Cincinnati, OH) 25th in slopestyle.
