ASPEN, CO (Jan. 29, 2016) – Olympic champion Maddie Bowman (South Lake Tahoe, CA) made it four gold-medal performances in a row at X Games Aspen when she topped the field Friday night in SuperPipe. Ayana Onozuka of Japan took silver and Annalisa Drew (Andover, MA) earned the bronze.

Bowman used a new trick - the switch 900 to win gold - a trick that has never been landed by a woman in competition before. She learned the trick this week in Aspen.

“I’ve learned multiple tricks here. It’s a great learning environment,” Bowman said. “Everyone’s just throwing down all the time. It’s sweet.”

Bowman only returned to competition last week at the U.S. Grand Prix in Mammoth, after nearly a year off snow due to injury. In February of 2015 the Tahoe native suffered a blown ACL and microfracture, which required two surgeries.

Maddie Bowman took another win at X Games.

Drew used a beautiful 1080 to power herself to the podium. The bronze was her first X Games medal in four appearances.

“I was hyped,” Drew said. “It’s X Games, I’m just so excited … it’s X Games and I’m on the podium, there are no words.”

Annalisa Drew grabbed third.

The rest of the Americans: Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) took seventh and Brita Sigourney (Carmel, CA) was eighth.

Next up for skiing at X Games Aspen is Ski Big Air on Saturday night.

QUOTES

Maddie Bowman
Coming back after two years of injuries is crazy. You never know what people have to go through until you do it yourself, so it’s just really good to be back skiing with all the girls. I think that’s the best part about this is—just to be back with them.

Annalisa Drew
I was hyped. It’s X Games, I’m just so excited … it’s X Games and I’m on the podium, there are no words.
