BEAVER CREEK, CO (Feb. 7, 2015) - What does the future hold in store for Bode Miller? One of the sport's most notable stars over the last decade talked to NBC's Dan Hicks in an interview that will air Saturday on NBC during its coverage of the men's downhill beginning at 2:30 p.m. EST.
“I tried retiring a couple of times and it just didn’t really stick so, but at some point enough things conspire together and it does stick," he told Hicks. "I’m not one of those people who needs a grand showing off or parade or anything. I just won’t be there. I’m leaning pretty heavy towards not—not going out there anymore.”
"I love racing. But I just don't know," he told the Associated Press.
Miller talks about what's next during the NBC's coverage of the men's World Championships downhill.
Miller was leading the men's super G as the ninth starter in Thursday's World Championships race, when he hooked his left arm on a gate coming out the Abyss, about two thirds down the course. In those first 59 seconds of his run, he posted the fastest split times - times that held up through all the eventual leaders. In the crash, he suffered cuts to his lower right leg, severing a hamstring tendon that required surgery.
U.S. starters for the men's downhill include Audi FIS Ski World Cup winners Steven Nyman (Sundance, UT) and Travis Ganong (Squaw Valley, CA), along with rising star Jared Goldberg (Holladay, UT) and two-time Olympic super G medalist Andrew Weibrecht (Lake Placid, NY), who earned a start with the fourth-fastest training run on Friday.
NBC coverage of the men's downhill will air 2:30-4:00 p.m. EST, featuring an exclusive interview with Miller.
