Anderson Tops Burton U.S. Open

VAIL, CO (March 7) – Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) landed another major slopestyle victory at the Burton U.S. Open. Anderson clinched the TTR World Snowboard Tour slopestyle title with her win Friday at the snowy Vail Mountain venue. Canadian Spencer O’Brien took second and Isabel Derungs of Switzerland third in the women’s final. Canada’s Mark McMorris took the victory for the men with Norwegian Stale Sandbech taking second and Candian Max Parrot third. The men’s and women’s halfpipe finals kick off Saturday at 1:15 p.m. EST and can be streamed live at www.burton.com.

• Falling snow throughout the day created flat light conditions and delays while the event staff thoroughly cleared new snow from the course.
• Anderson’s winning run: gap to boardslide, 50-50 to frontside boardslide, 50-50 to backside 180 tail-tap out, cab 720 nose, switch backside 540 Indy and frontside 720 mute.
• The men’s and women’s halfpipe finals kick off Saturday at 1:15 p.m. EST and can be streamed live at www.burton.com.
• Olympian Taylor Gold (Steamboat Springs, CO), Ben Ferguson (Bend, OR), Gabe Ferguson (Bend, OR), Louie Vito (Sandy, UT) and Jake Pates (Eagle, CO) qualified for the men’s halfpipe final, which is also set to air live on Fox Sports 2 at 4:00 p.m. EST.
• Olympic bronze medalist Kelly Clark (West Dover, VT), Chloe Kim (La Palma, CA) and Hannah Teter (Belmont, VT) qualified for the women’s halfpipe final.

It feels amazing. We definitely were under the winter elements today, which kind of felt good. It’s snowy, the course is a little crazy, but I was so impressed with all the girls’ riding and just happy to be out here in Vail. This win is different than the Olympics because I didn’t have all the pressure on me, but I like to do my best all the time and being able to participate in the U.S. Open is huge for me. It mean’s so much.

It’s definitely the full element here in Colorado, but it makes us realize we really are in a winter wonderland. Thankfully a lot of time we have good weather, but days like this really make you appreciate those bluebird days.

Originally, I wanted to do a cab 900, frontside 720 and either a backside 720 or backside 900, but today the speed for the first one wasn’t there. So I had to do a cab 540 and then I still wanted to do the frontside 720 and backside 720, but it never really came together. In the first run I fell on a rail.
