Meghan Tierney is a New Jersey girl who picked up snowboarding at Okemo Mountain Resort at the age of 10. Her father moved the family to Edwards, CO so that she and her siblings could focus on snowboarding.

Tierney has been racking up Nor-Am Cup podiums since 2013 and started on the World Cup tour in 2015, her best result to date (10th) coming in Veysonnaz in 2015. She took fourth at the FIS Junior World Championships in 2014 and third at the Junior National Championships in 2015. She made her X Games debut in 2016, where she was the youngest in the field at 19; she made the consolation round, finishing 10th overall.

MEGHAN SAYS

It’s always important to have someone there to ride with who will push you to do better. Riding with friends, also, can make the sport a lot more fun and you can all push your self to each other’s best ability. Working out and training hard is one of the most important things in become a successful athlete. You need to be strong in order to be able to handle certain conditions or obstacles.

FIRST TRACKS
Tierney started to snowboard around the age of 10 at Okemo Mountain. She was taught by her father, Chris Tierney, who is one of her biggest supporters along with her mother. She started competing in events such as halfpipe, slopestyle, snowboardcross and some slalom and giant slalom. She competed in local series in Southern Vermont where she was coached by Raschid Joyce, Ron Chiodi and Scott Horwath. She eventurally stopped competing and training in other events to focus only on snowboardcross. She says she has no regrets sticking with just snowboardcross; it was what she enjoyed doing most.

OFF THE SNOW
When Meghan isn’t on snow she is either working out in the gym or out in the water surfing. Meghan loves to surf with her brother Chris and sister Makayla. Meghan says that surfing is one of the best forms of cross training (besides skateboarding) for boardercross or any snow sport out there.
