As athletes go, Kikkan Randall is rare and special. A four-time Olympian, three-time overall World Cup Sprint Champion and 26-time World Cup podium finisher, the Anchorage, AK native has single-handedly brought cross country ski racing into the modern era by ever pushing past conventional expectation into results and leadership. In addition to racing nine-world champions, Randall has carved out a space for America at the sharpest ends of a race. When her teammates Jessie Diggins and Liz Stephen took historic finishes in the 2015 World Championships and the Tour de Ski, respectively, they walked in a path blazed by Randall over the course of the last decade. The 2014-15 season was a tougher year for Randall, salvaged, in part, by a late podium finish at the Lahti sprint. Randall is also the founder of Fast and Female, a nonprofit focused on getting girls on skis. After skipping the 2015-16 season due to the pregnancy of her first child—a little boy named Breck Stuart Randall Ellis, born in April of 2016—Randall, who has been a key leader on the U.S. Cross Country Ski Team for many years, plans to come back strong for the World Cup year in 2016-17 and keeps her eyes focused on the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang.
