ASPEN, CO (Nov. 21) – All eyes will be watching Mikaela Shiffrin, Julia Mancuso and potentially Lindsey Vonn when the Nature Valley Aspen Winternational takes over the historic Colorado ski town Thanksgiving weekend with a pair of Audi FIS Alpine World Cup tech races. Vonn, who was walloped last week with a stomach illness, returned to gate training on Nov. 18, but remains day-to-day on whether she'll start in Aspen. Mancuso has been training in Colorado since early Nov. and was third in the Aspen giant slalom last season. Shiffrin carries momentum from a third place slalom finish two weeks ago in Finland. The event also marks the World Cup return of Resi Stiegler, who tore her ACL at the March World Cup Finals. NBC and NBC Sports Network will carry TV coverage from Aspen beginning at 1 p.m. ET on Nov. 25 with the second run of slalom airing live on NBC Sports Network at 3 p.m. ET.

PORTILLO, Chile (Sept. 11) – The speed training season is officially underway in South America as the women's U.S. Ski Team, including Olympic gold medalists Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) and Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA), begin their second week in Portillo. Warm weather, which earlier produced a minor avalanche at the top of the training slope, has hampered training, but Speed Head Coach Chip White reported excellent progress from all athletes as they transitioned from super G to downhill over the weekend. The U.S. women's speed team, anchored by a fifth straight Audi FIS Alpine World Cup downhill title from Vonn, won the nation's standings for downhill last winter by 636 points over Austria. The World Cup season opens Oct. 27 in Soelden, Austria – the U.S.

LAKE LOUISE, ALB (Nov. 29 - Ski Racing Magazine News Service) - Call it Lake Lou-Lindsey.

Lindsey Vonn has raced 20 times at Lake Louise and won eight of those. She's been on a Lake Louise podium 14 times.

And Tuesday (Nov. 29), in the first training run of the World Cup season she finished so far ahead of the field it looked like she must have skied a different course than the rest. She hadn't. Not completely, anyway. There was an issue with a gate, but it was no where near the type of issue that could account for a 1.67 seconds margin over everyone else.

“I love Lake Louise,” she said in what must surely be an understatement. “I know the course so well I don't need an inspection.” Which may have contributed to the problem.

As one of four skiing kids in a ski racing family, the path to the U.S. Ski Team was pretty clear for Julia Ford, who was ripping around Vermont's Okemo Mountain Resort at age three. She spent three seasons on the U.S. Development Team and a couple on the "Trench Tour” (AKA NorAm/Europa Cup) before she was able to score World Cup points during the 2012 season. She has been making positive strides on the World Cup tour ever since.
